Designers’ Saturday in Langenthal. Faszinierende Inszenierungen von 71 Ausstellern und Carte Blanches verteilten sich über die Produktionshallen der Gastgeber Création Baumann, Girsberger, Glas Trösch, Hector Egger, Ruckstuhl sowie der ‚Alten Mühle’ im City Center.

Designers’ Saturday Guide:

Designers’ Saturday Awards 2010:

Ineke Hans views Soundwave Geo as a three-dimensional wall decoration similar to the ones which people have always created around the world. The difference is that Geo has a clear function due to its sound-absorbing purpose.“People have always wanted to decorate their walls – everywhere and in every era,” she says. “But we designers have a tendency to pare away the decorative aspect. I wanted to combine OFFECCT’s sound panels made of felt with a geometric
pattern that is decorative but can also function on the large scale with many panels in rows without looking too cluttered. Quite simply, a combination of tradition and modern design.”Today’s construction methods and the increased use of modern transport and communications have led to a growing demand for sound-absorbing materials. Early on, OFFECCT perceived the need for aesthetic acoustic panels that can help to create a pleasant indoor acoustic environment. This is the first time Hans has worked on such a project.Ineke Hans has continually developed her own collection of furniture and
decorative objects but in recent years has also begun cooperating with companies around the world such as OFFECCT, Swarovski and Cappellini.

It is with great pride that the Swedish design company OFFECCT presents its new table Snowflakes, designed by the Swedish trio of architects Claesson Koivisto Rune. Snowflakes is the world’s first furniture to be both mass produced and unique. Made of Corian, the table is made by using advanced computer software. In this way each table is unique.
“It began when I saw fabulous photos by the nineteenth-century photographer Wilson Bentley at a trade fair,” explains Eero Koivisto. “He photographed snow crystals for forty-six years! I became fascinated by his work and studied his book,
which was published in 1931 and contained pictures of 2.000 different snowflakes.”The aim with the Snowflakes table is to achieve the same variation as that found in real snowflakes. A computer programmer developed software that is connected to a milling machine. The machine cuts out the table top precisely according to the instructions of the design team. In this way, the table is machine made but no two tables are alike because the milling program is changed every time within certain preset parameters. For instance, the table always has six points and the same diameter. Snowflakes is a small, useful table which can be combined by using several by a sofa or just one by the bed. The table is available in three different heights in order to increase the possible variations and usages. Every table top is unique. The architectural firm of Claesson Koivisto Rune created the Snowflakes concept.
Together with OFFECCT’s design department, the trio tested various types of material and developed the table system. This year CKR is nominated in the category of “Designer of the Year” in the prestigious ELLE Decoration International
Design Awards in Italy. At the beginning of 2010 CKR won another four international awards, including “Good Design 2010” and “Wallpaper Design
Awards 2010”. Claesson Koivisto Rune designs both buildings and interior fittings.

“I thought the video’s concept of robots being constructed and given life was so
exciting, and I couldn’t stop thinking that it should be possible to do something similar
with furniture,” Nichetto says. “My fantasy became reality when I transformed the forms of the human robots into chairs, which were later named Robo.”The Robo chair has a completely new and unique look due to its separated seat and legs. The chair can be compared to a Meccano set that can easily be built on the spot. All the parts fit into a 50x50x20 cm box, which facilitates transport and also meets OFFECCT’s stringent environmental demands. The Robo chair incorporates three of OFFECCT’s cornerstones – design, quality and an environmental approach. OFFECCT has taken an environmental approach for many years now. Some products in OFFECCT’s collection have been awarded the Nordic Ecolabel. Luca Nichetto’s own background is as exciting as his design for Robo. He was born in 1976 on the island of Murano just north of Venice. His interest in
design led Nichetto to studies at the IUAV in Venice, after which his first project was in Murano glass for Salviati. He has operated his own studio in Venice since 2006 and his clients include OFFECCT and Moroso. In 2009 he was chosen as Young Designer of The Year at the ELLE Decoration International Design Awards in Milan.

The name Origami comes from the Japanese art of folding paper into three-
dimensional objects. Just like origami, Tiscar’s easy chair and sofa consist of
angular sections with straight lines. However, even though the back support is made up of rectangles, the overall impression is soft. Tiscar has worked with contrasts
rather than volumes, and the result is furniture which is sturdy despite its lightweight appearance.Working closely with OFFECCT’s design department, Tiscar has developed a modern version of a comfortable wing chair In Origami.“Together with OFFECCT I’ve created furniture that focuses on human values and comfort,” he says. “A person can sit comfortably in this chair for a long time. To me, good design is environmentally sound because these objects and furniture tend to have a longer lifespan. As a designer, it is wonderful to be able to work with companies that share this view, and OFFECCT is a role model for its environmental work.”Tiscar trained as an industrial designer at the Applied Art School in Valencia and the Polytechnic School of Design in Milan. Since 1993 he has operated his own design studio in Valencia, where he focuses on designing furniture for home and office environments.

“I wanted to create a timeless chair that lasts a long time,” Förster explains. “Mod is closely related to Spoon but its form is a variation.”Mod has a compact, lightweight look but is sturdy and comfortable to sit in. The seat and back have an organic feel and provide good back support. The back and seat are covered with a soft padding and are available with either a fabric or leather upholstery.“To me, the form conveys a sense of lightness, energy, speed and well-being,” Monica Förster says about her new chair for OFFECCT. “Reusing thing is in vogue right now and I have taken a lot of the form from Spoon, which I know works well. The focus is on people’s well-being, both physical and mental.”Mod is equally at home in both public and private settings. The chair is stackable and easy to handle. Placing a number of the chairs around a conference table creates a flexible and useful furniture arrangement for the office, but the same chairs work just as well around a dinner table at home. A single chair also works well in a home office.Mod is also available as an armchair.
